After kokanee fishing we switched over to lake trout fishing for a bit to try for a big one. We fished Mack Bar for about an hour before going in for lunch and playing in the water. Megan caught a nice 7 pounder. Laura was just learning to use jigs. I told her to put her thumb on the spool when she set the hook but forgot to tell her to then remove it. She hooked a fish that doubled the pole over, pulled her to the side of the boat and about took the pole out of her hands before the line broke, right where I tie the flourocarbon on to the end of the Proline... I bet it was a big one... Oh, well!

May I ask what types & size jigs you used? Thanks Andy

I like Zingers in 2oz or above, but Outdoor Emporium was out of them this year, so we also used a similar jig with a fixed tie on the line that looked like a small rainbow trout... I forget the name, sorry! You can see a picture of a zinger in a macks mouth on my later post...

Thank you TomD. I'm not set up for the downrigger fishery. This gives me hope. Thanks again Andy

We put shrimp or shrimp salt, or special mix (shrimp/anise) smelly jelly on the jigs before we drop them down... I run Proline on the reels with about 10' of flourocarbon on the end... Hope that helps!
