Fished the local bass club two-day tournament. My partner and I brought our 9-year-old daughters along, and camped at O'Sullivan Resort campground. The weather was warm and nice, tolerable unlike most late July days would be. On Saturday, the girls did excellent with the 4 a.m. wakeup, and we were into smallies on the first couple casts. As the action tailed off towards late morning, so did the girls' enthusiasm, even for swimming off the back of the boat. We found plenty of fish, both weighing limits of smallies. The day was particularly out of order for me as I lost 8 fish, something I rarely do. I don't always hook that many, but they usually don't come unbuttoned once I connect. I did end up tying for big-fish honors with a 3.68 lb smallmouth. Everything we found was deep and slow on very small grub-and-jig presentations. For Saturday, my partner ended up in 1st place and I was somewhere 4th to 6th. We had an excellent club potluck barbecue that night, and went to bed anticipating finding more fish on Sunday. It wasn't to be, as the girls couldn't get through the early wake up two days in a row. So we lolly gagged around camp and left for home mid-morning. The rest of the club fished and did pretty well, so I'm told. Without fishing Sunday, my partner ended up 3rd and I ended up 5th. If we would have caught some fish Sunday we might have moved up a little, but who knows. We had a great fishing and camping outing with our girls and enjoyed some time with our club. Could have been a lot worse. The fish weren't the most important part of this trip.....thus the photo (if it loads).
