wow where to start. i havent fished loon in prob 10 years. so decided to hit it for night fishing for silvers and they hit all night long. got on the water about 9pm and off by 4am. no real spot to speak of just found 35'-40' of water, rigged up and in the boat the fish came. between the three of us we prob caught well over 100 silvers, but we only kept the biggest ones which ranged from 14"-16", but lots of smaller ones. seemed that everyone out on lake that night was doing really well. used glo-hooks green and red, maggots (natural and pink) and the koke staple shoepeg corn. tried somthing new that a friend told me about, 2 cans of tuna fish 1 can of shoepeg, the day before you go emply the tuna fish oil in with the shoepeg let maranade over night. sorry no pics left the camera at home. would have ranked this day a 5, but we were fishing at "o'dark:30."

happy fishing-tight lines

Is it legal to release fish in waters that permit bait use?

If you are using bait, it is indeed illegal to release. Many bait-caught fish that are released will die. So, we must keep what we catch when using bait, and quit at limit.

I was trying to figure out our regulations and it looks like any lake that is bait legal, whether you are using it or not, prohibits catch and release. I don't have a law degree, so I really get confused when I delve into the regs. Even if I find a rule, there is probably something else that applies on another page!

I was wrong about the bait rule. You can voluntarily choose to not use bait and catch and release until you keep your limit. This is on page 26 of the regulations and I also called Mill Creek to confirm this.

Great report. We fished the tail end of this weekend, and the bite had slowed dramatically. Thanx for the report.

@kokaneeKatcher, appreciate the clarification on releasing if NOT using bait. Very helpful.

I have caught rainbows in the mix with the silvers and they are lots of times larger. I believe in the bonus lakes (loon) it's legal to have a limit of each, but ck the regs.

PS Using bait...gotta keep em' that's the law.
