My wife and I and her cousin, and son with friend, and 2 brother in laws and 2 boats, finall got to the lake at 9:30. Lake is full of wood and dead heads, some logs, etc. Drove up to houses on right after coming out of Speelyai and then went about another 3/4 mile. Started in center of Lake which was a mine field. Anyway, haven' t been in 2 weeks and promised nothing for our family. Fisherman depot in woodland gave us two helps...3oz of weight and about 40 pulls or 40-45 feet on downrigger. Went with pulls. Used a blue and white "glow" hootchie with smiley blade on top and purple UV hootchie. Used brass/nickle Ford Fenders and snubbers. Set 3 poles up and had good action all the way down to Launch. My wife and I did not fish, only her cousin and 2 boys.We got 3 limits and would have got more but were trolling with tangled gear. Yea, I know go ahead and chuckle.Had boys drive boat and grab the fishing poles when hit. Had them netting as well. Great day !!

Nice report wallab44. I was there yesterday (Saturday) and it must have slowed down considerably since you went. I did catch my limit but I really had to work for them. They were spread out, not concentrated in the usual places like they usually are this time of year. And the wood is insane, I don't get those water skiers, is it really worth it to risk your life to have a little fun? Anyways, Merwin is pretty slow for this time of year IMHO. I've been fishing it for the past 10 years and July is usually one of the two best months, but I think after this trip I'll stick to Swift for any other trips up in the area.

Tight lines!

Flyfisher...went back to Merwin Monday and got 2 more limits. My bro in law gave his fish to his cousin and we went back to try again but the fishing was slow ! Got there at 5am and got hits but no fish. All the action was focused between the houses on the North side and point just out of Speelyai. We used a Radical glow tube hootchie (watermelon) and blue/white hootchie. The shoepeg corn was soft and right out of the can. I'm learning and hope to find the best way to set up downriggers and which are the easiest to setup for this fishery. We have Penns but they are cumbersome. Any suggestions ?
