OK, proof is in the pudding that I suck at bass fishing. Fished Banks Lake with my 17 year old kid for the first time ever. Expectations were high but were dashed. I can get skunked at Spanaway, 5 minutes from my house, just as easy with less driving.

Got advice from two people that know the lake. One guy, I think, has won tournaments over there. I listened and followed given advice, yet, could not find fish.

Went to bed at 7:30 p.m. Friday night. Got up at 11:20 and took off. Picked up my kid in Burien and then off to Banks. Did not get the boat in until 5:40 a.m. Started fishing where I was told and (OK, not quite a skunk) got a 1pound smb off a rock face. Continued fishing until 12:30 with nothing more than 8 inchers.

Pulled out and got us a camp site. Set up tent and then headed back to lake for some cliff jumping.

Resumed fishing around 5:30 p.m. until 8:45 with nothing bigger than 8 inchers.

Felt burned out and wanted to go home at this point, lol. 10 hours of constant casting, pitching, flipping and everything else under the sun and nothing to really show for it.

My expectations were crushed. I take my kid fishing once in a while and he never wants to go back because we never get anything, ever, when he goes, for some reason. Today was no different. I apologized about being a crappy guide but he was upbeat, for the most part.

Thinking I need training on the post spawn bite, or lack thereof.

Part two (Sunday morning, to come)

P.S., Can't wait to go back, it has to be better next time!

I fished the flat out from hole in the wall. Spent a couple hours out there. Fished north and east of there in the bigger inlet. Fished south of Jones Bay and in Jones Bay and then in the evening went back to the big inlet that we fished in the morning, I think that was called Devil's lake??? or something. Map is in my boat and I am not going to go check it, lol.

Did not fish Devils Punch Bowl.
