Wow, 11 days on Lake Cushman. So quiet and beautiful. No phones, laptops or television, Fishing was just a bonus. Tried for the chinook two times but was mostly about KIDS and KOKANEE. What a blast. We fished on the north end. Trolling Weeding Rings tipped with shoe peg corn. Long lining at 1.7 to 1.9 mph. I take the blades off, that come with the wedding ring, and put smiley blades on, green or orange seem to be the ticket. On the north end, I find if you fish the east or west bank you will hook into loads of SMALL Kokanee, but if you fish the north bank they get bigger. And on the north bank we also took 2 respectable rainbows. After limiting out the first day I suggested we practice some catch and release. Not a popular call at first but once the kids let one go they wanted to watch them all swim away.
We also headed down to the bay in Hoodsport 1 day after the opening and brought home 11 monster dungeness crab. Can't wait for our next Vaca.

Really nice report. Watching a fish swim away after release is the coolest thing. Glad you got your kids into it as that should bode well for them and the fish from now on.

Great report! Beautiful time to be on the lake. The lake level is down this year so some of the ramps are not usable. The ramp at the old State Park, now called Camp Cushman, is open even though the campground is closed.

The rest of the ramps on the lake are private property of the Lake Cushman development. If you use the private launch without a Lake Cushman sticker or guest pass, your tow vehicle and trailer will get towed to Shelton! It's happened to a few people this year. It's a bit tough because you have a 4-5 mile walk to get into cell phone coverage.
