Fished Leland for the first time this year. I had read Don had been catching some perch and I wanted to also. I trolled wedding rings with worm and all I could catch was trout. Don, where are the perch?

I have to admit, I tried Leland a couple of times in the last week and couldn't find a perch either. Well, maybe I found them, but I couldn't get them to bite! Not even on a simple worm, after trying everything else I could think of. Maybe next time.

its not my fault i cant keep them off my hook, its not like i use a secret bait or anything.... or do I? forget the spinner buy some of dons dandy crappie jigs and use the 1/16 oz jig, white or orange and green both work well, and tip with 1/2 an inch of worm just enough so they can smell your lure. i use a 3 foot leader with a float and fish along the shore give the bobber a twitch every couple seconds to give the jig some action and just keep covering water. The fish either move around or i caught them all, its one or the other,.. and i am a selective fisherman, i dont keep EVERYTHING like some do, I C&R more than i keep... A LOT MORE!! But the secret is to experiment with colors and leader length and keep track of the depth i can tell if my jig is on the bottom by how my float acts i can also tell when the fish is playing with it because my float will lay on its side instead of standing straight up. its all about FINDING the fish and then presenting what they want the way they want it.
