Had a nice day on the lake with my nephew and boys. We fished for 4 hours and caught between 12 to 15 largemouth. Although the numbers were lowering than previous years the average size was better. The photo is of a 3 lber my nephew caught.

I was wondering how long it would be before we got a report from Newatzel. The trend of less fish but bigger has been going on for several years. I used to drive from south of Seattle to that lake several times a year. It was that fun of a lake to travel to. My go to lure back then on that lake was a Cordell Spot in chrome. Made no difference where you cast it--shoreline or out toward the middle of the lake. You caught bass. 80 to 100 bass a day was the norm. My record was 116, and my son who was with me on that trip caught 72. But if you hooked a pound and a halfer you had a hawg. Ofcourse we released them all. But, like you said, every year there after the numbers went down, but the sizes went up. Still a fun lake to fish, but now it costs me $40 in gas to go there.

100 fish days are still pretty common there. We will see them a little later in the year. Usually those are the 10 inchers though. Now the night fishing has gotten better the past few years. This summer has just gotten things off to a slower than usual start. What I want to see is some good fishing report coming outta Duck Lake in Ocean Shores.
