Hit Rimrock this morning with three friends, hoping to see the kokanee bite taking off. My neighbor Glen had the first fish in the boat about twenty minutes into it, and then nothing until the youngster in the boat, Collin, caught a 12" rainbow. It was real slow until Glen put a brown roostertail on, with a dual Colorado blade setup ahead of it, tipped with maggotts, and he started hooking a few kokanee. I stayed with my red rimrock special, and the other three used brown roostertails for us to finish with just 9 kokanee, and one rainbow for the frying pan.
We had probably double that in hits and fish on that didn't make it to the boat, along with two bulltrout that I caught & released.
We marked fish everywhere in depths from on top to 50' down, and caught our fish in the 10-15' range. The water was still just a little off color, but very fishable, and when these kokanee decide to go on the bite, which I feel will be very soon, it will be a fun time on the water.
Good to see the County Sheriff doing his safety checks, so be compliant when you go, and have lot's of fun. Tight lines and take a youngster fishing with you.
Kokanee were about 9-10", bulltrout were about 14" in length.
