Wow! what an awesome night on Bitter. I am going to break the report (star rules) and give this a 4 star report. (only 1 fish to the tube actually)
I got on the lake later than I wish, about 8:30. Had only 1 hour. I started as usual at the Lilly pad field directly across from the park, near cement overhangs. Not so much as a nibble for about 15 minutes. I flicked my cigar sized dark colored Senko, with speckle flecks... over to the Eastern corner of the lillies. It was one of those beauty moments in bassing, where you watch your line sitting on the water top as you know your Senko is doing it's dance to the bottom.. Boom, my line ran out. I set the hook, (or at least I thought) lol. The fish felt bigger than usual. Got him about 10' from the tube and he came out of the water, did a head shake and spit the hook. Fish was over 3lbs. A little later I was near the other public access on the N. end of lake. Pitched it out near a beat up looking dock. Fish hit the same Senko. This time I tried to horse it a bit because I thought he was going for the lillies. The difference between the usual dinks and a decent bass to me is that bass over 3lbs will really take control of you if you don't steer them pretty quickly yourself, and this one I tried to do just that.
I will never bass fish again with my spool of 8lb P-line that I normally use for trout. Broke off... now there is a nice largie wearing a Gamagatsu (sp?) and a Senko in his lip out there. I hope he rubs it out somehow. boated and released a dink lmb for good measure on the way in.
Such a great time to be on these urban lakes,, just shorts and a t-shirt in your float tube.
