Well it has been a while since I had a multiple hookup day for cutts and I was hoping to get a couple to the boat and try taking some underwater pics. I started fishing around 10:00am at the south end of Mercer Island, marking a few kokes but not having any success with the cutts. After a couple of hours I moved up to the 520 bridge and started out dragging a 2” Apex behind a flasher. I spotted a couple of dead, floating stickleback which prompted me to switch to a mini hoochie. I picked up a small koke at 20’ down and at around 1:45 the bite came on strong. I brought 4 cutts to the boat, all caught around center span, in about a hour and a half. The fish were on the small side, 12”, 14”, 14” and one in at 17” all found 5’ to 10’ below the kokanee. Shortly after 3:00pm the bite died and I trolled south past the Gates residence before calling it a day. The wind was calm the entire time I was out and the sun broke through the clouds permanently around noon. Water temps have really shot up over the past couple of weeks with surface temps in the mid 60’s all over the lake. The algae bloom is still going strong and the visibility is still a bit limited because of it. My underwater fish pics did not turn out well at all due to a number of reasons. When I’m fishing by myself hand snapping a pic is pretty much useless. I’m going to need to put the camera in movie mode and mount it below the water line in hopes of being able to extract a decent still.

Interesting "Late Bite" .... I've never really experienced an "Early Morning Bite" on Lake Washington. Mid-Morning to after noon, has been my best window of opportunity. However .... As a crazy Fisherman, I'm always out there in the AM.... Just in case!

Looking very forward to "Shelving" the trout gear and moving over to Salmon. Port Angeles is calling me really hard lately.

I have a Fujifilm FinePix XP that works great as a camera for the boat and while snorkeling.

I have the same camera- dust, water, freeze, shock proof. ME proof, essentially! I quite like mine, was about $130 (I got a refurbished unit, I always trust them just as much when they have gone over them with a fine tooth comb) Thanks for the report!

G-Man,
I've fished Lake Washington since the 60's, and have always wondered what those large fish right on the bottom near the bridge might be...my fish finder seems to show them at 150' or more as does yours. I really enjoy your reports! I got into some wonderful Coastal Cutthroats yesterday in the Forks area. They look like someone painted them they are so colorful. Releasing them is as much fun as catching them.

Ark, I don't believe the returns your are seeing at that depth are fish. Looking at the sonar pic I posted, there appears to be a thermocline at the 80' to 100' mark and another starting around the 170' mark as you had noted. Currents will also show up in this fashion, and one can imagine that there has to be some movement with the amont of water coming into the lake at this time of year.

Hey G-Man, you sure about those not being fish? I think a thermocline should be more consistent and thicker looking then that, and if you're moving those fish arches are going to be stretched out as they pass under the cone from front to back. I really think that you are over 2 large schools, one group suspended and just barely in the cone due to how blurred they look, and the lack of a yellow or red color. indicating a stronger return, and the other school of what I think are BIG fish hugging the bottom. I just think if you look at the return coming from the flashgraph part on the right you can see the distinct seperation between those returns which to me would indicate a fish school. I love analyzing sonar, so just giving my .02, which is what it's worth. :)
