I took advantage of Idaho's free fishing day and took the family camping at Winchester State Park last weekend. Had a great time fishing, watching the tanagers and hearing the wolves howl at night. (There is a wolf reserve very near the campground.) Caught plenty of nice large bluegill, some small bass, a few decent perch, some planter rainbows, a few crappie, and a nice channel catfish. Kept enough to have a great fish fry one evening. Kids caught plenty using moslty a bobber and worm close to shore, a few were caught (the perch) on the bottom. A couple surprises on the trip included catching the catfish using a bobber and crappie jig. Quite a fight on my ultralight gear, let me tell ya! Also, my son nailed a couple crappie on the surface twitching a little Rapala, which was a little unusual also. I think we caught every species (of game fish) in the lake except the tiger musky, hence I didn't give it a "5". :-)
