I got a chance too hook with my good buddy Joe Cortez for a morning of crappie fishing on Buena Pond, a.k.a I 82 pond # 6.I was a little at a disadvantage without my clolor graph, but this lake is loaded with panfish. so we took out Joes boat to give it a try. Let tme say there are a ton of laremouth cruising the shallows, evidently in full spawn mode because they ignored everyhing but a smoke 3 Kalin's grub because I caught a nice 2.5 pound bass on my first cast! We anchored up near the Island and the pan fishing was fantastic. Though the crappie were mostly about 7".to 8" we put a few keepers in the boat. I got the shock of my life when I dropped a 1/64th oz white micro jig and a tiny piece of worm down to the bottom when a solid hit bowed my microlite rod over. After a few tense minutes that fish showed itself and up came a 5 + pound channel catfish! The ponds are on fire for the die hards. The sun got pretty hot at mid morning and after taking a photo & releasing the bass, Joe and I went home happy campers.(I also stopped by pond 4 to snap a few crappie pictures on the dock.) Jiggy

the ponds lie on both the east and west side of I 82 as you travel south from Yakima towards Sunny side. There's ponds 1 and 2 on the notheast side of the highway. Pond 3 is on the same side all by its self and you have to hike 3/4 of a mile and go through a pedestrian tunnel to get to it. Ponds 4 and 5 aere on the west side and you have to access them from the old Zillah highway via the airport. Pond 6 is by the tiny town of Buena, off of Buena loop road. It has a nice parking lot and easy access. Pond 7, the last pond is all all alone on the south west side beween the Zillah /Toppenish off ramp. Pond 7 is also a long hike in right off the I 82 road way. They all produce trout, bass, panfish and an occaisinal channel catfish. Jiggy
