Well I went to Log Boom park to catch some carp. For once it wasn't a wind storm and I was stoked about that. The carp were sharking about, even more when I started chumming some corn and hot dog buns. Another guy was fishing with salmon eggs, and we saw 'em eating or stuff. But they were wiley and didn't like that hook. A couple picked it up for a split second but they'd spit it back out.

After a while I tried nightcrawlers, which worked well, I had a couple more suck and spit takes. But it was tough to fish with nightcrawlers, because I kept catching perch and blue gills! When I got real bored I'd fish with a plastic paddle tail worm, and caught some dink bass and a couple big ones. I did manage a large blue gill and a bunch of little ones, and got a couple of really nice perch to fry up.

No pictures of the big one ran out of space on my phone.

I did manage to get the hook set on one BIG carp. As soon as he felt the hook he zoomed around, back and forth along the dock twice and managed to twist the hook out somehow. , which then slid down his back, grabbed him by the motor, which made him even madder, and then there was no stopping him. Eventually the hook came out of his tail, and he kept jumping and rolling for about ten minutes. But the whole thing scared off all the other carp, so I left.

about 30 blue gills and perch I caught, about five dink bass and hooked a giant carp. All in a couple hours. It was a fun afternoon. If bluegill could grow to be as big as a bass, they would fight ten times harder.

I agree with you on the bluegill being a savage fighter. There was a lake I used to fish up north with some pretty good sized ones and boy could they tug!

Nice report

Just to clarify, the fish pictured in the hand is a pumpkinseed sunfish not a bluegill. They don't get nearly as large as bluegill can but are pretty scrappy for their size.

fishnfool - both Terrell and Fazon lakes both had them, Terrell has quite a large population. Fazon has larger fish though.

I also just came from there, was going to practice my baitcaster but had a bad birdnest, so I went for panfish with my spinning rod, left about 830, ran into Elijah & met Pika206. Caught 1 squawfish and 1 sunfish, fed the resident crane the squawfish, released the sunfish. Thanks Elijah for letting me use your worms, and showing me how to dropshot, will try next time out. Pika, also a pleasure to meet you,...

Yea, I caught both blue gill and pumkinseeds, the blue gill were bigger. The perch were delicious! We had them for dinner tonight, I'm gonna go down and get a whole mess of 'em soon, because I'd forgotten how good they are!

@Beeler5 Yea you can chum in Lake Washington - per 2011 regs "In all waters of Lake Washington, KOKANEE/SOCKEYE less than 15" in length are KOKANEE while those 15" and over are SOCKEYE SALMON. CLOSED to fishing from a floating device within 100 yards on either side of floating bridges. ALL SPECIES - chumming permitted."

I'll have to check cassidy out, perch are tasty! Not that fun to catch, but tasty!

nate- I'm with you on the perch if they're cooked up right :-)
That looks like a pumpkinseed to me in the pic. Both pumpkinseeds and bluegill sure can be fighters for their size!

How big were the perch? I'm going to try and find some big enough to eat this weekend but may have to settle for dinks cuz it'll have to be close to house.

Thanx for the report and photos!

Yep, hooked into one yesterday, gonna go out again with the wife today and try for 'em again. Really stoked, those fish are monstrous and can pull like a tank!

@Knot - yea, the ones I kept were about 12" I caught a bunch of dinks, I kept a couple cuz they were hooked too deep. I've caught some nice sized perch in the marsh behind the island by 520 bridge in the U district, but I've never targeted them specifically until recently. They are super tasty, and I'm going to find some bigguns sooner or later.
