My son and I had an OK day fishing at Storm, ended up with 4 rainbows in the ~half-pound category. However, the day was completely ruined when we returned to my car at the Storm Lake boat launch: the passenger side window was smashed and my wallet (locked in the glove compartment) and two CD cases were stolen. A CLASSIC SMASH-AND-GRAB!! Luckily I had my driver's license with me, but all my credit cards, insurance cards, etc. were gone. Do not leave anything of value in your car at this ... or any other ... boat launch parking area!! The Snohomish County Sheriff's Department said these types of thefts are on the rise, and the thiefs target parking areas where they know car owners are not likely to return soon. We suspect that we were being watched, so be aware of any suspicious characters hanging around these parking areas.

Good advice about parking at boat launches or anywhere for that matter. Vehicle Prowls and theft complaints are a daily occurrence with most agencies and as far as theft being on the rise, I can't remember it ever not being a very common crime that occurs daily in unoccupied locations and everywhere at night. The days of officers being proactive are for the most part long gone and the crooks know it. We spend our shifts running from call to call and very little time driving through neighborhoods and parking lots catching these pieces of crap who would rather rip off the public than get a job. Sorry for your loss.

Solution: Adopt Texas' defense-of-property law.
