Headed out to Long lake this morn on my boat straight to the channel. fished worm and bobber, as well as some plastics. I cought a crapload of rock bass and a couple trout on the worm and bobber. But never got a single hit on the plactics or my jigs. I saw some Hawgs, but I never got a bite. I could really use a couple pointers on Largemouth bass fishing here in Washington. I have fished alot in the southern states, but that is obviously a bit differen fishing than here. I am aware that I will have to work more up here for them, but I am getting skunked boys... Can anyone oint out a couple hot spots, and give me a couple ideas on bait, lure, and presentation, and what time of day is best? I don't expect to get all your secrets, but I catch and release and am just a sportsman learning the areas..ant help is appreciated very much...

Tight lines all...

Being a Texas Transplant myself, I can tell you that the fish behave the same here as they do in the south. Only difference is that they are on a 2-3 month delay up here. Where it is certainly post spawn/warm water time in the south, we are still mostly in pre-spawn here. Weather can greatly impact their activity and moon cycle can too. You may also be used to fishing moving water down there, river systems and reservoirs with flow. Almost all the places where bass abide here are natural lakes with no current other than wind.

My best advice is keep trying and slow down if you are fishing plastics. The best colors here seem to be greens, browns, and blues. Even though I say slow down, dont be afrait to try a crankbait, buzzbait, or spinner bait too to determine fish mood and activity level. Sometimes they just wont bite a worm but will kill a crankbait.

Good luck.

Thanks for the great info..that helps alot! I typically fish the north side of the lake as that is usually the better spawn areas for most lakes. is there any spot you would recommend on Long lake you have has the most luck for those big ol Hawgs?

This time of year, a slow falling skirted jig in black, green, or brown is a good bet. Texas rigged craws, worms, lizards, ect. in same colors with small a weight as possible, or even weightless, is another good bet. Slow falling baits that you can pitch tight to cover. One of my favorites is a Berkley crazy legs chigger craw in breen color, rigged weedless on a 1/4 oz shaky head jig, or Texas rigged. I been gettin some pigs on that this year. The fish in most lakes are up in 2-6' of water right now and are either on beds, or looking for bedding areas. Look for areas of the lake that have hard bottom, preferably gravel, adjacent to cover. On lakes with docks, they will use the dock pilings. Sometimes you have to try a few different angles at any one particular location before you get a take. Just take your time, and plan your approach as stealthily as possible.
