Headed out to Fish Lake for the first time this season. I wasn't in the mood to break out the boat so I thought I'd try my hand fishing from shore. I was surprised to see that they have not put the floating dock into the water at the park near the parking lot. In the past it was pretty good fishing with worms right off the dock if you got there early enough in the season. I tried a couple of spinner baits and worms off the wooden walkway along the east side of the lake but had no takers. I worked my way down along the rocky shoreline where there's a significant drop-off just beyond the edge of the lake. I fished form 9:30 AM to about 3 PM with a variety of strategies including trolling and water boatman flies trailing a torpedo float with nothing to show. Finally I discovered that chartreuse was the color of the day. I landed and then released two small planter tiger trout, about 10 inches each, with a chartreuse curly tail grub on a ball jig. I switched to a Pather Martin green, orange and yellow spinner with a chartreuse blade and nailed two picture-perfect brookies that were 13 and 14 inches respectively. They're great fighters and made the day worthwhile.
