Got on the water about 4 O clock this afternoon. A little breeze was blowing as I made my first cast with my 8 weight Lamiglass and a marabou streamer. Shook out most of the clear intermediate line before I started rowing. Haven't gone 20 feet when the rod started bucking. I picked the rod up and I was fast to a nice heavy throbbing. A few good head shakes and the fish started heading towards me. It was all I could do with my large arbor SA fly reel to keep a little tension on the fish. No matter, the hook was solidly planted in the corner of her jaw. She never jumped, but after several runs and splashes, I was able to take the fly out without removing her from water. A quick hand measure guestimates this rainbow trout to be 24 inches long, approximately 4 pounds. What a thrill, especially on a fly I just tied this morning!
