I decided against hitting the Sound for the ling opener, I’ll wait until halibut opens as well before I give it a go. Now, with the Lake surface temps hitting the low 50s for at least a week, and this being the second day of stable weather, the promise of a hot bite was too much to pass up. As expected, the weather was just fantastic, and when I hit the water at 10:30 the winds were coming out of the NW. I first hit the south side of the I-90 bridge to check out the kokanee action. The kokes were willing biters, but still are just under the 12” size restriction. The kokes closer to the surface seemed to be a bit shy, it was the ones at 35’ to 70’ down that hit my mini Apex repeatedly. I also drug a mini cut plug through the area a bit to see if any cutts had yet taken up residence in the area. I didn’t find any so I ran to try out an area that I haven’t given much time in the past few years (I’m going to keep this area to myself for now). Once I set up shop, it didn’t take long before I had my first cutt of the day 25’ down on my mini Apex. I released this fish and over the next 2 hours picked up 4 more, releasing all but one 21” buck. The fish I kept slammed a Brad’s mini cut plug at 45’ down just as a ski boat was slowly passing by causing the occupants to shout out a cheer. What I found today was that the bait and the cutts were all over the water column, and as typical, the cutts were below the bait. Kokanee and smolts were jumping most of the day and I got to watch an immature eagle try it’s hand at catching a few. Ran into Woolyboat on my way back to the launch. It was nice to meet a fellow washingtonlakes member and I have to say you have a great looking setup, it is going to serve you well.

I buy the unrigged two packs and rig them myself. I run 12lb fluorocarbon and a size 1 Matzuo Siwash Sickle hook on the smaller Brad's lures if I'm using them for cutts.
