I was a little bummed that Pacbassman and I had to cancell our planned Red Rock Lake trip so I ended up taking Chris Erlicher of Yakima, to Myron Pond to see if we could tangle with a big broodstock or two. Saturday was one of the nicest days all spring to be on the water, with little wind and a springtime warmth that stayed with us all day. I knew it was gonna be a good trip when not 5 minutes after we launced, I hooked into a solid 16" triploid on a berkley minnow jig. Chris got his first fish soon after. I released another chunky triploid on the same drift. We probed the numerous blowdowns along the north west shore searching for crappie but we caught none on this day. Interestingly, we managed to entice some small bass to hit tube jigs rigged topwater/weedless around some blow downs as well. Both chris and I had big brooders follow our jigs but it wasn't until we hit the East end that my 5 foot Okuma ultralite rod doubled over as my line cut an arch thru the water behind the boat! "Big fish bro!" Chris already had the net ready. I fought the brute for at least 5 minutes and when I finally got him up it was one of those 6 lb plus pound trophy sized brood stock rainbows Myron is famous for. A couple of quick pictures and away the giant fish went back in to the depths. Over all we caught 7 triploids, a brooder and close to 30 sunfish, with all fish released. Chris capped the day with a nice 21" triploid just before we left around 6 p.m. Hopefully Chris will email me my brooder photos for this report. Jiggy
