The weather warmed up on Thursday afternoon, so about 3:00, the wife and I went to Scriber Lake. The lake was high, shoreline vegetation partially submerged. Water temperature unknown. The "dock", actually a floating trail, makes a pretty good fishing platform.
My wife fished with a worm on size 4 gang hooks about 5 feet under a bobber. I also used a worm on gang hooks, but fished the bottom. No action at all.
We were only there about an hour when it began to rain, so, around 4:00, we packed it in and returned home.
Last fall I bought a 10' Porta-Bote, and haven't had it in the water yet. We've been practicing assembling it in the seclusion of our back yard, so as not to make complete fools of ourselves when we bring it to the water's edge in full view of the fishing community.
When the weather and the water temperature have warmed, we'll make our Porta-Bote debut!
In the meantime, we've been scouting out some of the likely small lakes in King and Snohomish Counties. We live Near Northgate Mall in North Seattle, so they are the closest.
I came across WashingLakes.com when I was looking for local fishing info. It's a great site, so I joined and this is my first report.
I hope to make many more, hopefully with better results, in the 2011 fishing season!

Hey Porta Bote,

Good on you for getting out. Don't worry about what you look like when you do get your boat out. You'll still be looking better than the guys stuck on the bank.

Howdy. I too am a portaboter, this will be my 4th season with it. Have not taken it out this year yet, but I think tomorrow will be it. I also practiced putting it together at home before I did it at lake shore. It is daughting at first, so I think you are wise. It gets a little easier, but still is a chore, but well worth it. Welcome to WL.com! The are a few of us N. Seattle people on here.

A good photo of my bote:

Hey Porta Bote, welcome to the site! I'm in Lake City and the lake I've been fishing lately is Bitter Lake, which is just up the street and across Aurora Ave from where you live. I use a fly rod but I've seen a lot of guys with success using spinners or powerbait. The body count is usually higher with the bait and spinners than the fly, but IMHO the fly rod is more fun. Good luck!

hey porta-bote angler, welcome to the site, hope to see more reports from you in the future. i live in mountlake terrace but lived in northgate for a couple years. there are plenty of places to fish nearby. once the weather warms up, and it gets to late spring / early summer, there are a ton of places where even the shore / dock fishing is really good :)
