Got to get out and try my first 2011 outing for smallies. Started at Newport shores point and didn't get a nibble. Wind started picking up and decided to fish the north end of 90 bridge. While driving to the spot noticed a sail boat running around having some issues in the wind. Didn't think anything of it. Stopped and fished the pilings at 90 bridge and heard sirens coming down the Mercer boat launch. Then they rushed to the Seattle Marine PD boat, I then realized it must be that sail boat, I turned around and couldnt' see it. The Seattle PD raced to the spot, so I decided to check it out myself.. Sure enough it was the sail boat flipped over. They got the guy in he was okay. Increcible, I was truely impressed about the Seattle Marine PD, the incredible response time.
Anyways after that excitement, went back to the 90 bridge fished some concrete rubble and pulled off my first smallie of the year, caught on a Sniper Trigger craw at 27'. Had some other bites on the mr football head, but not takers.
Good day, Seattle PD saved a guys life and I caught my first smallie.
lake washington has been the least productive bass lake for me in WA. I am always stumped when people pull something worthwhile out of there, especially this time of year, but I know some do very well. Nice job and thanks for the pic-
That lake fishes deep all year long-for me at least. It is my fav. west side lake hands down. It takes some time to learn it, its not a lake where you can just roll down any section bank and pitch docks. Kzoo- Up at sammi it was 43-44 last weekend so i would guess it would be close to that
Smallies will be easier to catch when the water warms up, way things are going, probably in May right now. It's been a late spring, you never know, we might get some 70 degree days in April! I wish.
I wouldn't doubt water temps in the low to mid 40s either.
Nice fish, gotta love the big pond! Not that I target them specifically, but I've picked up smallies in 20 to 50 feet of water all through the winter, always near the bottom. The east channel and north side of Mercer seem to warm up quicker than the main part of the lake. Right now surface temps are in the mid 40s.
Nope, this was last weekend south of the 90 bridge, really small sail boat. The one on Komo happened yesterday or a couple days ago crossing the 520 bridge.
