Well, it was a great day on Chelan. Numbers were moderate for a four hour trip with 6, but size was just fine. Big fish was 9lb 4oz. Jeff just "snicked" that out on his side of the boat to outdo the first fish, an 8lb 11oz fish that came on my side. Another fish pushed 7, there were a couple of 5's and a 3. What worked best was a B2 squid rig with an action disk by Wiggle Fin in front. a T4 Purple Glow flatfish caught a big fish, and the Green Mackeral Rushin Salmon Wobbler also scored. We had a couple of fish pull off and a couple of other "take down" that didn't hook up, so all in all it was a great morning to spend with Dave Kocher of Leavenworth and his son Drew. With one a retired commercial airline pilot and one a carpenter it made for interesting conversation all morning. Drew showed how to challenge the old man (me) with a backlash, but at the end of the day I lifted my thumb off the spool and killed 15 minutes unwrapping my cable off the spindle... They were quick studies and handled the lightly hooked fish masterfully.
It was very popular this morning at the launch. It's nice to see so many guys interested in our fishery.
