Dale Rees of Tacoma had been out with us on Chelan to fish for Mackinaw (Aka: Lake Trout) before and wanted to try a multi-venue trip. We decided to have him fish for Steelhead in the AM and move to Rufus and fish for triploids in the PM. Andy got our Salmon Specialist, Jeff to go with him. The water was very low with the South shore bay adjacient to the can line being a mud flat! There was very little current flow. In other words, Andy looked at that and went Uh, oh... He set Mr. Rees up with a bait rig at a couple of likely locations with no luck and figured, Dale's best chance to get a couple of triploids today would be trolling to find that odd / aggressive fish. He trolled away with some wooly buggers led by Wiggle Fin's Action Disk and stuck Mack's Lures new smile blade / fly combo. Althought he thought that blade wasn't working right, he got fish pretty quickly and stuck with it. Managed to get a couple more on the same combo. The blade would stop, turn a few times, stop turning and then "kick in" and stop, etc... It may have been that irregular action that gave those fish something that triggered them out of a very negative to neutral state. I am always amazed at the numbers Andy can "ring up" when things are good. But what is over the top for me is his ability to conjure up fish when nothing is happening. Man, he's a great guide! (see our Lake Entiat report to explain those Steelies you see.)

Good Report!!! Just a reminder to all that if using Bait after 2 trout you are done fishing..Regardless if you let them go..I have been catching quite a few with leaders hanging from the mouths..These fish cannot survive this..they cannot digest metal!!!!

I think the report said that he started with a bait rig,, but had no luck, and then went with the woolly buggers and Wiggle fin.. but a good reminder for the general public anyway.

Great report! I do not have boat enough to do what you have done for your clients. I've always wanted to double up right at Bridgeport. Thanks.

Why did you rate the day a "5"?

Darrell. How was the water clarity upstream from Chief Joe dam? Still muddy or clearer? Jiggy

Sorry for the delayed response. I've been at the Tri-Cities Sportsman's show with limited internet availability. To Lundegard: I rated the day a 5 because we pulled off a multi venue trip, caught nice numbers of Steelhead in the morning and still limited our customer on triploid rainbows in the PM even though conditions were difficult.

To Jiggy: Water clarity at our end wasn't bad. They've been holding flows pretty reasonable, although Saturday the 22nd was rockin' and rollin'. See our Rufus report for that day.
