The plan (mine...) was to run to the lower pens to dunk some bait and slaughter quick limits. The fish Gods rewarded my arrogance by giving me the toughest bite I've had this season. We had a tough go of it at the lower pens. The bite rate was slow. We missed a number of light bites, The fish that we did get just hammered them, either on the way down or when reeling in. Letting bait sit there just didn't work. The one (really nice) consolation was that our angler, Dean Peer got a really nice 9 pounder on very light gear. That put a smile on everyones faces. Rainbow Power Bait was the color that caught fish on this day. Anton

Well, Andy will be out for Steelhead on the 10th. We'll see how that goes.

Tight Lines,
Anton

Light gear, big fish with a full tail equals a great fishing tale, and miles of smiles. Nothing like a serving of humble to put things in perspective. LOL. Great fish and nice pics

Hey Loui, have you ever fished there in the summer? Do you catch smallmouth on Rufus?

Yep, fish RW year round, but no I haven't caught smallmouth out of there. Summer fishing is great for the smaller trout flyfishing over the weed beds.

Thanks, it's just one of those ongoing discussions with guys. Smallmouth should be all the way through the system. Roosevelt is full of them. There are loads below Chief Joe, yet I've never heard of anyone catching a smallmouth in Rufus. Weird, if true.
