I was just surfing the website and realised I forgot to post my muskegon lake report from this summer. I used a 5 star day to get some of your attention on the issue. The lake was majestic as usual and water was freezing. But I decided to snorkel around and through the lake two times before my muscles started cramping from the cold. What I saw was horrible and devastating.
First of all people have decided to use this perfectly clean lake as a garbage disposal. I probably removed half of a garbage bag just of beer and pop bottles and cans, and there is still alot in there. Next, the trail around is full of trash too and many worm cartons (For those that don't know this is not a live bait fishery). And finally, the fish are ALMOST GONE! Now I understand this is a small lake and we obviously don't want it to everpopulate for lack of food. When I snorkled about ten years ago I saw hundreds of 1-3 yr olds and dozens of older 12-18 inch cutthroat. This fishery does not get stocked and all fish are native. I may have seen 50-75 1-3 yr olds and less than a dozen 12-14 inchers. This is pathetic and disgusting. There is currently a 2 catch limit which obviously isn't being respected, does anyone know how fish and game decides to make a body of water C&R?
