We hit our normal hole behind the dam again today and started out real slow and a little wind and snow made for a cold couple hours to the start. We used a float with shrinp on a size 1 hook. The leader was about 3 foot or so and fished a depth of 6 ro 8 feet.

Catching was slow with only one hooked and landed a nice fat 3 pounder. It had all its fins in tact except a tiny bit of its dorsal. With a full tail that fish was a screamer and by far the best fighting Triploid I have ever hooked into.

The fish checker took the inards for a sample and its stomach was fairly full but most if what was in it where little pieces of stick. Why this fish was eating stickes I have no clue, but it sure slammed my shrimp.

Saw Blu Fin launch and motor upriver into the snow I and hope you did well today.

Robert I hope that is fish blood and not your finger bleedin'. Glad to see you got something. Last Saturday I cruised the lower end of the barrel line looking for you. My youngest backed out on me at the last minute. You missed out on a cold boat ride.LOL
Thanks for the report.

afk we ended up fishing Sunday instead do to scheduling stuff. and yeah that's fish blood. We need to get together up there some weekend if for nothing else just some shore fishing. I think I have figured out a few things about them fish, but not going to post yet until I can prove more on my new thoughts. Funny thing when I hooked this one today it had a twin that started following it before realizing its buddy was in trouble it then moved out fast. So much for friendship huh LOL.

Nice looking fish Robert. Good to hear the fish are starting to show up on the lines. I talked to a gentleman at the launch that was there two weeks ago and was working the can line. He had a pic of a 10 pounder he had caught. I hope the weather is good for the holiday fishermen, and hope you continue to reel them in.

That can line is going to pick up soon I think. I myself and trying to brine my own shrimp now to see if it works. I forgot to mention in my post, but message blufin about it was my day started off crappy with me knocking over my steelhead rod I was using to bobber fish with and then stepping and breaking the handle on my backup steely reel. I can't get a new one that I can think of because what I thought was pflueger is a pflueger knock off. I was given it in trade for helping an older gentleman (he wouldn't let me leave without something and I would never take money).

Hey mallott guy. I 've got a great shrimp brine recipe that works pretty well for me on Rufus trip's and Columbia steelhead. The prawns can last up to a year when you use coarse sea salt to preserve them in. Seems to make a big difference when I avoided using chlorinated tap water as a base for my dye solution. A cool ol' coot ( Louie's about as cool as they come! LOL) set me straight on the in's and outs on fixin' up my own shrimp and they accounted for most of our 52 steelhead caught last year, along with some nice triploids too. Jiggy
