I got to spend a fun day on the water with Aaron, Anton Jones, and Andy and Kevin who work with Anton. Anton had wanted to show me the trophy fishery for Lahontan Cutthroat trout that Omak is known for. I had driven by Omak lake last year and knowing how beautiful the lake is I was excited to finally get a chance to see it up close.
Weather conditions started out cloudy and damp but as the day progressed the sun came out it it was quite nice. Temps in the 50s, mild breeze.
We fished out of Anton's 21 foot North River boat, and ran four rods - two on downriggers varying the depths from bottom to teens, and two outriggers which we used 8 oz cannonballs to get down into the 8-15 foot range. The lures of choice were plugs, thin-blade spoons, and jointed minnows. Trolling speed was around 2-2.2 mph and water temp was 56 degrees.
FIshing was non-stop action with a few lulls, but generally hot hot hot! We ended up catching 52 fish ranging from 12" to several six pounders. No trophies this trip, but somewhere out there may be an 18+ pounder waiting to be caught!
Thanks to Anton Jones of Darrell and Dad's Family Guide Service for taking Aaron and myself out and showing us this fantastic fishery. Thanks also to Kevin and Andy for their help as well. We had the entire lake to ourselves on a Saturday no less! What a great day of fishing. Video coming soon...
