Too pretty to stay at home, so I hooked up the Lund and off to lake Campbell to see what might bite. Alas....the trolling motor battery was dead, so I trolled around with the 50 hp looking for some activity. I decided to anchor up on the east side of the island and fish some of the steeper drop off's with jigs, spinners, and spoons.
Started picking up a few perch on a yellow rooster tail, then about 11:30 the hummingbird lit up like crazy. I grabbed a jig and bobber set up and it was a fish every cast for the next hour. Heck, you didn;t even need to cast, just drop it over the side of the boat and pull in a fish. It was crazy.
I wish the grandkids had been along.
Anyway, it would have been a great day, except the perch in Campbell run pretty small. I managed to get enough 10 inchers for dinner, but most were 8 & 9 inches. Jig color didn't seem to matter much, Most were caught on yellow or white mini-tubes on a 1/16 jig. 15 feet of water, and the fish were initially near the bottom, but came up to 5 feet. water temp was 50 to 51F.

While taking out, I talked with a fellow also pulling out, and he had done well on trout still fishing with green powerbait. 5 triploids, all about 16 inches.

Good on you! Keep hammering away on those Perch and believe it or not, the end result will be more and bigger ones will come to be. Just like competition in the market place brings higher and more revenues floating everyones boat. It's just the natural order of things. Eat fish, live long! :)
