Ahh, Liberty. Well, this will be my last post on this body of water unless I set a personal best fish or drown :)
My goal for this year was to learn as much as I could within the shortest time possible since this was my second year fishing. I'm no expert but I do know how it feels to fish an area over and over again only to get skunked with no idea of what to do or how to improve. Hopefully my year's postings can help others to at least have better success and guidance, those that have written me tend to agree that this has been helpful. My next postings will be on other waters as I prep for next year's tournaments.
Anyhow, enough of the BS, time to get to the report!
Fished Spirit Lake in ID this morning and got absolutely zero bites! Water temps were in the 53F range so called it a day and headed to Liberty. Got on the water around 3:30pm and decided to try new techniques to learn different approaches. Pulled out a McStick jerkbait since the water was in the 57F range and worked over the weeds east of the ramp. Low and behold, hit my first fish in two casts...a nice little perch. From reading our Lunker Ledger (the IEBC newsletter), where there's perch, there's bass! Got the boat back in position and casted out again. Two tugs later and WHAM, hooked up with a 3lb LMB seen in the first pick. She hit it head first so spent about 10 minutes untangling her. After that bout, hit another perch and a sunfish in about 20 minutes. Worked further down and then decided to hit the steep bluffs on the southeastern shoreline. Got two SMB's in a few casts but only about 1/2lb each. Time was around 5pm so decided to pull out the gunfish topwater and headed towards the weeded area west of the launch. 3rd cast and tied into the 2lb 2oz'er in the second pic. Had my senko all ready to go as a backup cast but since I had my heartbeat under control, she pinned herself on the hit and I didn't pull the bait away. Made a couple more casts and decided to call it a day around 5:30pm.
So, there it is. Goodluck to everyone on this lake. She's been good to me this year providing some extreme quality fish as well as entertainment along the way. Goodluck to everyone, support catch and release, and if my info has helped you, come on over if you see me and say hello. -Todd
