Decided to hit Terrell one last time before it closes October 1st, and it was a good move. Started in near calm conditions fishing from the boat launch back east along the road, had 4 in the boat in the first hour, including the two in the pics 1.9 and 4.4lbs respectively.
Water temps were 62.5* and the topwater bite was on! Black double buzz bait, and a Lake Fork paddle frog in green/red flake. The fish were in the big pads, I never even spooked a fish near grass clumps or in the small pad fields. Fished that area another 1/2 hour before motoring back west and around the corner, caught 2 more, missed 4 and lost a toad near shore in thick grass!
I really thought I was in for one hell of a day, but then, the Bellingham 'wind vortex' kicked in and it got nasty fast!! Blowing what had to be 20mph off and on, whitecaps, darkened water, ugly! The bite shut off!! I tried spinnerbaits, flipping reed edges, dragging worms, jigs, senkos, even a crankbait and swimbait, no dice...
The only time I had any action at all, was when I could find a little calm water and most of those were small 2lbs or less. Decided to cut my losses and go get some lunch, all in all a great day, will be back in February.
