Fished the big Lake Wa on Saturday. C.A.S.T. for Kids Event. If any of you can find the time to get involved with this program you need to. It is an event that will change your life. Jim Owens and his crew are the BEST! I think there were 40 kids involved this year. And everyone caught perch. One Gent from Western Bass and his boat caught a very nice 4lb + smallie. The perch were found in the weeds. My boat caught about 25 fish.Perch and one nice 1lb smallie,We kept 6 perch. We fished up by the VMAC. But the perch were also caught down on the south end. Another boat caught a bunch of 10-12" perch.Fish Tacos! Get up into the weeds and then get out into about 20 feet of water. Water temp was 62 degrees. We were off the water at 11:30 am. Had a great barbeque. Jim honored all the veterans that were on hand. Also a moment of silence for the victims of 9/11 and then a young lady sang America that was beautiful! Concluded the event with the photos/plaques handed out to the Captains and their crew of fisherpersons. The fishing was great, the time spent with kids was even greater..Thanks C.A.S.T for Kids and for all that you do..
I do have some pictures..i will post when i sort through them..see ya on the water.

I was there as well and ended up taking out 3 of the high school KEY club volunteers as we actually had more boats than kids at this event! We fished just south of the VAMC at the site of the old mill and picked up around 80 perch. That should keep me in crab bait through the winter! Great day and great event.

Hey fishinfool,
You can go to www.castforkids.org Jim Owens and his crew are always looking for volunteers. That site will direct you on how to get involved. You do it one time and you'll forever be changed. Make sure you find the Washington State locations. This organization is all over the U.S..pretty cool.. If you are in any type of fishing club here that helps too. Hope this helps you get involved..
