Found this nice little lake while checking out several fishing opportunites northwest of Newport. It has several basic camp sites up above the lake and easy (though steep) trails to the lake below. The water level was relatively low, allowing easy access via trail and exposed shore all the way around the lake if you're willing to climb over some shoreline logs. Despite the low water level, the lake was pretty deep. Sandy shores drop off to dark green water 20 feet from shore. Several logs with exposed tips and bases that go deep down in the lake may cause some snags but may also provide cover for fish. I arrived around 10 AM and worked my way around the lake till 1 PM. Weather was partly cloudy and in the low 70's. I caught one beauriful redband cut that was just over 13 inches on a 1/8 oz silver Kastmaster on the far side of the lake. Had another rise after the same lure once and then returned to the depths. It looks like a good trout lake. I wasn't there for long and it was probably at the worst time of day. Would like to try it in the early AM with spinnners or spoons, or in the evening with flies. The trout appeared to be a native, with rich pink meat. Tasty.
