A beautiful day on Diamond lake; but we had lots of native competition.
It started when we anchored the aircraft carrier (my pontoon boat) on the happy hunting grounds; a patch of weeds bordering a deep hole on the south end of the lake. The native Western Greebs had staked out their area nearby, their presence of course means smaller fish, smaller fish mean bigger fish.
The greebs started getting closer and one started chasing our lures. Hell, the last thing I wanted was to explain to the Fish and Game Warden how I came to kill a greeb. We ended up moving as this one greeb would not give up, hit our lure several times.
I had just trown out a chartruese spinnerbait when I got a hit, a decent bass broke the surface and as I was bringing him in, Spalsh! An Osprey had swooped down and was headed off with my fish. Scared the heck out of everybody on the boat, and as we stood there slack jawed that huge bird was going to take that fish back to junior in the nest.
Not so fast says I, I jerked the line and that bass fell back to the lake. I reeled him in and as I boated him held him aloft in triumph.
Another boat was cruising by and saw the whole thing; I got a giant round of applause as I did a little happy dance.
We caught several more, I think I caught 6-7 decent Bass, all on that lucky spinnerbait.
I don't mind the competition; I am thrilled that our lake is heathy enought for Osprey and greeb to earn their living.
That fish is lucky; he has a great story to tell his buddies.

Great story! Did you release that bass and make it the lockiest day of his life, or did he just get his hopes up when the osprey dropped him and end up in the frying pan? Happy Fishing

Hi Guys, yes, he is swimming with the fishes...no not that way. he is in the lake and hopefully getting fat for next years catch.

Bazzdude, the lake can produce decent fish. In a tournament last year a guy caught a 9lb. Large mouth, I have seen pros bringing up 5 pound bass. I have caught many a 17+ fish but they aren't very fat, most are a couple pounds. The fish the osprey tried to take was 12 inch at best.
