Ah, the harvest of the innocent.

Everybody was catching trout today. I picked this lake because of the high ratio of stocking per acre(http://www.wa.gov/wdfw/fish/plants/2003triploid.htm) and because it’s 4 miles from my home. I was happy to see the mallards with their newborn ducklings, the swallows doing acrobatics over the surface of the water, the hawks circling high overhead, and the rainbows dancing on the end of my tight line.

It has been suggested that the stocked fish stay within 5 feet of the surface the first two or three weeks after being planted, so the technique was a worm 4 feet under a bobber anywhere on the lake. As the remaining fish wise up, they start keying in on vegetation and moving down in the water.

I was planning on coming out early today, but when my alarm went off a 6.30, it was raining pretty good. I decided to sleep in until the rain stopped. This was just as well, because the fish were eating all day long, and I still had trout for dinner.
