ok, after failing dismally at getting my girlfriends 5yo son hooked up with his very first fish at conconully, we made our way up to blue lake. i've never fished this lake before, and it's set in a truly beautiful area. even with (or especially because of), the regs in place (barbless hooks, no bait, one fish limit), the fishing and catching were excellent! with logan being a total newcomer to fishing i showed him how to throw and retrieve a roostertail from the shore, releasing a couple fish doing so. there is no real explaining the look and attitude of a kid seeing his first fish caught before his eyes! pure awe and excitement. letting him hold the rod and feel the fish bite and then take the hook and the thrill of the fight= magnify that feeling x10!!! we had a blast fishing for maybe an hour, catching and releasing at least a dozen fish before heading out with our 1 fish apeice. what an honor it was to be the one to introduce him to the ranks of the happy angler. i think i was as excited as he was! we all went back to the cabin happy campers that nite.....all fish were between the 13-16" range. as a side note i did see a small rattlesnake walking down to the lake and shooed him into the brush with my pole. as always, it's wise to keep a wary eye on your surroundings.
