Got the to lake about 6a.m., a thick fog obscured the opposite shore. I launched my kayak with the initial intent of fishing for bass. I used a Texas rigged brown super grub and worked my way around clockwise from the boat launch. Near the south end of the lake with no strikes I switched to a Carolina rigged 5" senko, just to try something different. Worked the lillypads, reeds, around the west side of the lake with no luck.

Switched to my fly rod and tried hitting the rises that were all around me. Still nothing. No entirely sure what the fish were rising for because I tried to look for whatever was hatching. If anyone has ideas I'd love to hear them.

Finally parked myself next to one of the pilings near the swim area, switched back to the spinning rod and threw out neon orange power bait. After a few minutes, bam! a beautiful 15" rainbow. Couldn't see the hook to remove so I cut the line and let it go.

Spent another hour dinking around with no strikes.

I got a few with a spinnerbait the other day. Downsize the plastics and you'll catch a ton. They'll be dinks but at least a pull on the line. My best quess for what the trout are rising on would be mosquitos. When I see a rise or swirl from a decent trout I usually am able to hook into them with a mini jig flylined or a smaller spinner.
