Camped at Lake Gillette NFS campground the 15th to the 20th. Did most of our fishing next door in Thomas. Found three hot-spots...one about 50 yards out from the docks along the East side, North end. Another along the North end going back West and South about 50 yards off the shallow buoy marker. We were using mostly the wedding rings I make as crawlers and spinners. Hot colors were a mix of purple glass beads and green and/or red firepolished AB glass beads. I usually use a streamer fly attached to the lure and tipped with a pink maggot. My son-in law likes to use Woolly Buggers or Muddlers tipped with a night crawler. We were both getting strikes and landed quite a few most of which were released and kept a few bigger ones along with the a few gut hooked ones. I usually use a Mustad Limerick #6 on my crawlers and spinners tipped with corn and/or maggot and don't have a problem with the fish swallowing the hook.

We usually work Lake Sherry too but the PWC's were churning up that little lake and we didn't stay very long in there. Caught a few trolling around Gillette. Did some bottom fishing off the bank on the South side of Gillette and caught several...that is where the gut hooked fish were caught using bait hooks. My son-in-law went down early one morning and caught a 2# LM a batt hook with chessy marsh mallows and a night crawler while reeling back through the Lilly Pads.

Very nice outing with the camping, boating, and fishing. Perfect weather too.
