I decided to head to Fan for the morning. The weather was not so good, but the fishing was above average all things considered.

Got on the water about 8:45 or so....temp was 68° at the surface and 64° at 20' (in the middle of the lake).

I began working the East bank trolling a size 10 Blond Stayner Ducktail. I hooked 3 pearch and one 12" Rainbow on the trip to the neck between the upper and lower portions of the lake.

Once up there the rain began.....as well as big hatch of light green Chironomids. I tied a similar pattern on and began fishing vertically in 28' of water. I caught 9 nice fat 12 to 15" Rainbows over the next 30 to 40 minutes. At one point it was one on every cast. Then both the rain and the hatch shut off.....just like that!

I began to work the West cove with the Staynor and caught a couple more near the weeds. One was 16".

After a hour with only a few very slight tugs I decided to head back to the launch. The rain returned, however the fish didn't. I caught 2 more small perch and 1 8" Bass on the ruturn trip.

All in all a pretty good day fishing on a beautiful little lake.

Tight Lines!

Good job and good, Rooscooter! That vertical technique is an absolute hoot when it's working....and it sounds to me like it peaked out during those 30-40 minutes. A fish every cast, that's when you KNOW they are crushing chironomids! I wish I could get to Fan more often, however, it's a bit of a drive for me.
