Smallmouth Bass

Well, had no plan to fish today but my other stuff fell through. Been getting some pressure from Fiancee's 15 year old daughter to take her fishing, so, I finally did.

We trolled out front of Veteran's home and got a perch and she caught a small rainbow. After some time, it was time to try for Smallies, which I suck at.

Moved over to some docks and set up a couple of drop shot poles. She was having fun catching rock bass, which I was hoping she would enjoy. And, she did alright casting for the first time ever. She enjoyed being more pro-active while fishing as opposed to sitting there while I drove the boat around.

I hooked and lost one Smallmouth on the drop shot (yes, you know who, with a Gulp minnow). Probably a pound or so and that was it for the bass, well, the smallmouths, anyway.

Now, input wanted from the gallery here on whether I was right or was the home owner in the right:

Had my little 12' Smokercraft in between two docks and about 30-40 feet from shore and I heard this guy yell, from his deck of his million dollar house, "Hey, why don't you fish out there, away from the docks".

I said "What?"

He repeated his statement.

I said "This is state waters"

He came back, "You have no right to fish there, move out"

I said, "This is state waters, I can fish where I want"

He said, "Go on out there, be a nice guy for once"

I said, "I am a nice guy"

He said, "Then why in the hell are you fishing there"

I said, "Because I have the right, A$$H....." you get the picture

He went back inside, I was kind of infuriated.

You wern`t wrong at all had the same thing happen to me awhile back and I did the same thing. Way to stand your ground. They don`t own the water and it pisses me off when they do this.

that homeowner sounds like a typical rich ahole like you said. i personally haven't had that experience yet but i've been hearing about it and it makes me pretty upset. they may own the property and the dock but they don't own the waters. they need to learn the law and keep their mouths shut.

I told my step-daughter to be that I should go to shore and step out and just stand there in 6 inches of water as he has no control over that, but I didn't, lol.

Keep fishing where you want on the lake. It is not private. I fish there a lot. We had a good day Sat. afternoon. Lots of Kokes and it seemed that all boaters were pretty courteous.

Were you fishing on the east or west side? I had the same problem with a guy sunday morning on the west side? I landed a cast on his dock, i apologized and he lit me and my family up. My fault for hitting your dock but keep your cool with kids in the boat.

John, it was on the northwest side, pretty much across from the Mansion. There were two or three really big and very nice homes in a line from South to North and then the first house that was a little lesser, although still nice, was the place. It was an older guy, perhaps mid to late 60's and he let me have it. Oh, I see, you stirred up the hornets nest then I came through around dinner time and got stung, thanks buddy:)

Lock, can't fish, heading home to Forks for the 4th. I also do not have a GPS.
