Well, after wynotchee last week we decided to return to our fav. lake, pulled this nice 4lb.3oz. Dolly Vardenon the downrgger rod on Sat. morn, Dollys were all we managed to put in the canoe that day, lost a few cuts that threw the hook after some great acrobatics, caught 5 Dollys, this being the biggest. We fished on sunday but with the barometer dropping with the incoming system it put the Dolly bite totally off, we managed to catch three cuts, nothing of real size, caught a small (9 inches or so) sockeye, noy sure if resident fish or one up from the salt, chrome bright, had to release due to tribal regs, unfortunately it was hooked under the jaw and was a bleeder. A nce weekend, but we worked for the fish. Bob R.

Bob, I really enjoy your lake Quinault reports. This seems like a very nice fishery for dolly varden. Not many places that you can target these fish,, or let alone even find them. Please keep us informed with reports. Some of us are watching!

If prices haven't changed since last year weekend permits are $10, boat permits are also $10, but that boat permit is good all year, and an annual license is $35. You are allowed 12 fish per person, only 4 of which can be Dolly Vardens. All rainbow trout over 17 inches must be released as they are then considered stelhead, but we have put in a lot of hours and have never caught one, I hear of steelhead being taken and released occasionally, ALL salmon must be released, we have only taken a few small sockeye and we saw a spring salmon hen heading to the upper river a month ago.The trout action is for cutthroat, and it's pretty hard to catch a limit, but Melanie and I have caught as many as 16 fish in a day and that's a lot more then the state allows, and with no jet skis or water skiing or towing anything around being illegal(other that lures!) it's a great quiet lake well suited for kiyaks or canoes, but weight or downriggers help as the weather warms up.. Fly fisherfolk might want to try it as the cuts are stuffing themselves right now on giant black ants, I have a couple of flies I had tied for me after last years hatch but haven't tried them yet.Good luck, campgrounds on lake with boat launches at two out of the 3 campgounds on south shore road.
