Went to Riffe and put in at the Mossyrock launch at the Tacoma PUD Park. I went to the Northerly side of the lake and fished about 3/4 of a mile up from the dam down to the dam. I caught 9 keepers between 3 of us fishing and released about the same number of fish that were too small. It was kind of strange because most of the salmon have been 12-18 inches but today we caught many fish smaller than 10 inches. In any case the action was consistent but slow for the most part. We used pink hoochies, green hoochies, Needlefish spoons and green Wedding rings tipped with a worm. All of them had about the same number of strikes at varied levels in the water. I fished from 8-30 ft in water of about 65 feet. We fished this area until 1:00pm.
It was cloudy in the morning and calm and by the time the day was over, it was sunny and windy out of the West. I went up to the Kosmos launch in the afternoon and battled swells of 3ft while crossing the lake to the fishing bridge where people were catching lots of small silvers and an occasional nice one. We on the other hand, had a slow pick on them using the same stuff as earlier in the day. For the afternoon, we caught a total of 6 keepers and 3 more throwbacks. we found out that the fish up here were more honed in on the green wedding ring tipped with worm trolled at slow speed at 10 feet of water in 30 ft depth water. we would have tried different areas, however, the wind was howling out of the West and the waves were too large to make it effective to troll anywhere else easily. Again, the weather changes made it a less favorable day for catching in my opinion, however, the bait fisherman were doing really well on the bridge on smaller fish. What a beautiful place.
Sorry, I didn't take any pictures this day.
