My fishing trips have been far and few between this year, mostly as a result of Obama's economy yet the trips have been well worth it for me and my good friend Adam Barnett. Ad and I took my 10" flat bottom out for an evening fishing the willows off of the the Pothole's res up at the Northern access at the Job Corps Dike recently. I had some reservations about the possibility of being successful with so many young perch and baby bass in the shallows. But Ad's first cast with a Baby bass Pop R' near a beaver hut yielded a nice 2 lb largemouth and the game was on! We scooted around the myriad of willow stands and toulee pockets, tossing Baby Bass 5" Senkos rigged weedless and Ad stuck with his Pop R'. The interesting thing was that the Bass really responded to a 4" Bass pro Smoke colored double tail grub that I flipped into the pocket when ever Adam missed a fish on his top water. We saw a number of non biting bass up shallow that I figured were possibly late spawners...The best spot that we found was a submerged root mass near a slow moving current, with its proximity to a shallow sand dune point, really concentrated the most aggressive fish. The bass pushed schools of minnows up shallow on that bar and we were rewarded wtih some fast and furious action till sundown. 16 fish to 3 1/2 lbs. What an evening! The Jigmiester

Our trips east have all been met with lousy fishing weather. We spent 5 days at the Potholes in May and they had the 50mph winds most of that week. Didn't even fish. The weather has done more to trash my fishing season than anything. Wished summer would come. Great to hear you had a good trip.

I figured it was only a matter of time before I saw/heard someone blame Obama that they couldn't go fishing. That's a coincidence, because I had a 5lber come off right at the boat last weekend and I'm positive that was Obama's fault too. I'm sure Obama will give you more hours at your job soon and i heard him say he might even give you a raise, so keep your chin up.

Maybe you might see Obama catching some oil coated Red fish in the Gulf between his golf games...and Paul Mc cartney concerts. And most of all, WHAT JOB? The Jigmiester

Hey Skeeter. This year's funky weather has made fishing tough, thats for sure. And Nik, it's that rapidly expanding 13 trillion dollar national debt that's got me worried for my kids future...Obama's all talk, talk, talk and blame Bush for everything. Politics aside, hope you catch some more big bass too! TJM

Political view's can get heated as people are passionate about there particular party. I try to see both sides. You guy's, bait each others hooks, net one an others fish and keep on fishing. An excellent day on the water Jig M.

I just never heard anyone mention "Bush's economy" when gas was $4 a gallon and the dow was at 7000 is all. Anyways, i just slapped myself for poisoning the best thing ever - bass fishing - with the worst thing ever - politics. An extra 4 lber for you on your next trip JM to make up for it.
