I hit Loon Lake with my brother in law and a couple of friends last night for some kokanee fishing. Between the four of us, we did ok. We caught 7 or 8 kokanee, 2 or 3 rainbows, and 1 small mackinaw. All fish ranged from 14.5-16.5 inches in length. As usual, we had many missed strikes and missed fish along the way. It was an entertaining night.
We used white glow hooks tipped with corn flavor eggs, a kernal of shoepeg corn, and a maggot. We used a single split shot to get the hooks down to the bottom and realed up 4-5 cranks and then waited for the underwater lights to do their work and bring the fish in. The bites were soft but they were there!
The kokanee are big & fat right now for this time of year. 16.5 inches is a good size kokanee for this lake. We're looking forward to getting out there and doing it again.
The fish tasted great on the barbeque this afternoon!!! The flesh on all the filleted fish was a nice bright reddish orange. Can't beat it with a little bit of lemon and butter!
