Well that Double Glow Ace Hi with a couple of hooks baited with a strip of Pikeminnow produced another Chinook today. A very nice 12 pounder that was a screamer off the clip. Dan and Emily Moran of Manson were nice enough to come out and fish with us. They got some Lakers too, but the Chinook stole the show with it's acrobatic display. The Bar produced early, but it was off the tip of Wapato Point that Andy got that big Chinook to bite. They are there, you just have to work to catch 'em.

I have not eaten Lake Trout, but have tried Chinook and like that just fine. How do they compare for table fare, do you have a preference?

Lake Trout taste just fine, depending where you get them from. Chelan Lake Trout are great. As soon as you pull 'em out of the water, cut the gills and let them bleed out. 1-2 minutes later, bonk them dead. Put them on ice or keep them cold, don't leave them in the water on a stringer.

Thanks guys, Our young guide, Andy Byrd got that Chinook to bite today. As for the Lake Trout, I put them right up there with the triploid rainbows out of Rufus for grilling quality. I personally don't bleed them. We put them on ice and fillet them at the end of the trip. I tell customers to not let them get warm and mushy. Also, I tell them do not overcook them. If you are cleaning your own, remember to scrape all the loose body fat from the inside of the body cavity. I just sprinkle the flesh side of the fillets with Johnny's Seasoning salt and garlic powder, clamp them in a grill basket and cook them on medium a few minutes on each side.
