We had a few unaccounted for hours today so what better to do with them than go fishing. We packed some lunch and an extra kid and headed for Heart Lake. After finding a spot to back the truck up to the waters edge we sent the dough bait a flying. Kids being kids we spent the first ½ hour untangling rods, line and dogs. It seems that they don’t understand that in order for dough bait to work it has to be in the water but oh well they were having fun. We were fishing various colors and brands of dough bait. The set-up was a # 14 treble, 20” of 2# leader, swivel and a small egg sinker. After a tailgate lunch I noticed one of the rods twitching and rounded up our guest and gave her the honors of winding in what turned out to be a beautiful 16” rainbow. We had a few additional bites but only got the one fish to the bank. It was a fun but short afternoon escape.
