I went fishing through the rain showers on Lake Sammamish today. I got there around 3 pm and fished til 7:00pm. I trolled the North end of the lake in 35-70 ft. of water with Needlefish spoons in herring color. The action was very slow although the salmon smolt were jumping in many places. I was not able to find a concentration of trout anywhere on the upper end. I wound up catching 2 fish... one was about 17" beautiful bright chrome Rainbow and the other one was about 12" and had a gentleman's release at the boat before I could look at her too closely. The 17" fish was released as well. I had 2 other knockdowns but nobody home.

The pattern this year is different than last year for catching trout. The water was warmer longer in April last year and the trout were hoarding on the smolt at this time last year. This year I haven't had such luck running through the smolt with lures. The trout are still suspended in wide areas of the lake and not grouped up on bait. (Just my observation and experience this year). If somebody else has been slaying the Cutts I'd surely like to know. I have attached a picture of the trout I threw back yesterday.

Hey, that's a cutt you have in that picture. That huge jaw is a dead giveaway and I can see a hint of the orange slash. Good going out there, this time of year you just need to be on the water at the right time. Once the water temps go up a bit more, the fish will be able to feed most of the day.

Thanks a lot G Man. I've read your posts for Lake Washington as well. Have you found the fish to be concentrated around the bait more? Or are you finding suspended fish like I have?
