Fished Scooteney for the first time. Spent 3 days exploring the lake. Weather wasn't the best, lots of wind and cold except for the last day (25th). Caught SM on a spinner, Zara Spook, curly tailed ringed worms, and grubs. Last day we spent by the pumping station on the west side throwing black with red flake 5" Yamamoto grubs and caught several 1 to 1.5 lb SM, 1 12" perch and then hooked into something more substantial using a Hula Grub. Felt like I was trying to haul in a weed mat as it was almost like dead weight. Got it to the surface and knew it was a good size bass but it ran again. Got it back to the boat and headed to the net when it spit the hook. Didn't get to see if it was SM or LM but it was big. Day was capped off when I managed to accidentally hook a nearly 13lb carp in the back at the leading edge of the dorsal fin. Played it for nearly 10 minutes and it took line at least half a dozen times. Finally got it into the boat (I wanted my dang Hula Grub back!) then through it back. All in all a fun first trip to the reservoir and we will return but I wished the fishing would have been better.

For those looking for Walleye we talked to several others over the 3 days fishing for them all with little or no luck. We did manage to get a 16" and a 20" casting for bass, both C&R

We were up there last week and pretty much the same result - SLOW! A few bass/perch here and there. No walleyes. Some Idaho boys were up there in a make shift platform boat bow hunting for those same carp - they were knocking them dead! Thanks for the report.

I tried the bow too, always keep one in my rod locker, only got one but got it very shallow in the top of the back and it thrashed enought to unscrew the harpoon tip just enough to cause the barbs to fold backwards and pull out just as I got it to the boat. Bow fishing the carp is a great alternative when the bass don't seem to want to bite.

I have never tried it, but it sure looks like fun. I know those Idaho boys were just having a ball.
