Had a great morning at Alder, caught 2 out of three smallmouth bass that I had spotted on Sat while swimming and wading around. Also found a dead one on the bank must have been a 4 or 4 in a half pounder. Water was cold but bass on the beds casted to one log and got a bite but lost it, said to myself try again later let everything calm down then come back. Continued down the logs to the other spot I had seen one earlier, threw next to the log and two twitches later she picked it up and started running off for deep water and a log, started walking back to keep her out of the log and tightened up the drag just a bit cause I had it way loose, she ran four times before I even got her to the surface for a look and when I did I about died, my biggest in my lifetime, she still tugged and ran back and forth a few more times, just prayed that the hook would not pop out, I was shaking like a leaf when I finally got a hold on her. Took her over to a log and took three pictures which I have no idea on how to get them from my phone to this site so I can post them. Should have just taken my poloroid and have the picture for sure on a photo not my phone. I found out how to send pictures from my phone to my computer or someone else phone but cannot figure out how to send my pictures on my phone to this site. Anybody out there can make it simple then let me know how. Back to fishing went to where I had seen another one on Sat. and did not get anything there, Went around an island fishing lost three jigs and got back to where I lost the first one , threw in there again and as soon as it hit the water he hit a male, smallmouth, both this fish and the other had the red, orange eye meaning spawn mode, weird thing was eye changed to normal after catch and switched while I was getting the hook out and taking pictures, also the big female had scares around the gill plates where all the spawning fun they were doing was showing up on the outside. Never knew the smallies were that large in there only got smaller one before, guess I got lucky and chanced upon them while they are vulnerable in the shallows for the spawn, probably will not be there long since full moon is coming and they will be going into protective mode after the eggs hatch so not much longer and the fact it is probably 5 ft higher in the same spot because they are raising the lake and then I'll just wait for the largemouth that come in to spawn next. Until next time good luck , Happy fishing and catching, and try not to leave anything (trash) behind, pack it in pack it out.
