Fished Swofford for the first time ever with a friend that lives in Morton (he has never fished it, either). Got on the water around 1:00 p.m. and instantly started catching bluegill with a small Rapala in perch color. Then got a pound and a halfer lmb. After a couple of smaller dinks, picked up a 4 pound 5 ounce and then a 4 pound 1 ounce. Caught a few more 1 to 2 pounders and then my friend got off the skunk with a decent 3 pounder.

All in all, we boated, I think, 9 bass and I lost four more, one nice one about 3 feet from the boat, which was in the 4 pound range, as well.

Caught all fish on plastic worms or senko's except for the 4 pound one ounce fish. It was on a nest and would not bite, so I put on a lipless crank bait and cast out with the intent of setting the bait right on the nest, but, she hit it before I got it there. She turned and spit the hook. I was bummed but cast out again, anyways. Nothing coming from her this time. Cast again, reeled onto the nest and dropped it down dead center, she just raced for the crank bait and sucked it up, fight on.

Lot's of fun and would have given it a 5 rating, but my buddy struggled and only caught two bass and a couple 2 or 3 blue gill.

Nice fish! The bass on beds are male bass, the female is off about 10 feet or so the male will look to where she is. Watch the male and you will know where to cast to catch the female which is much larger. You only have a few chances to catch her the first cast is your best bet. She will hit very soft watch your line. If you catch the male first the female will not bite. Good luck!

Trent, I kind of knew that the male were on the nests, and in a way, I kind of just said "she" because I just kind of do that, but, with that being said, I seen so many smaller fish, like 50 to 70 in the 1.5 to 3 pound range that I just kind of knew that those were the males, but, again, I kind of thought that these bigger ones were exceptionally fat, so figured they were indeed females. I guess I was wrong and thanks for the heads up.
I was thinking that somebody would correct me if I was wrong. Thanks again:)

They may have been female's being larger than the ones on bed. I know that there is a LUNKER in that Lk 9 years ago there was to be a 12+ in there. Thats the one I would look for.
